Geophagy, also known as “pica” is defined as the obsessive eating of dirt. Practitioners of geophagy are often known by the name “nutters.” This practice in the western world is considered to be a sign of a mental disorder, though in many third world countries dirt is commonly consumed from necessity for its substantive and mineral value.
